Policies and Procedures for under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults
Introduction
These policies which have been adopted by Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club include legislation, good practice safeguarding:
a, Vulnerable adults and children as prescribed by Children’s Act 1989
b, Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and Sexual Offences Act.
c, Child Protection provisions within the Criminal Justice and Court Service Act 2000
These policies and procedures are for the guidance of all members of Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club i.e. Instructors, divers, swimmers.
Self-declaration. Appendix 2
Must be completed by any Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club member who holds a position requiring contact with under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults, as required in the British Sub-Aqua Club’s Welfare of Vulnerable People Policy.
Criminal Record Bureau
In addition to self declaration Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club would expect any member who holds a position requiring contact with under18 year olds and vulnerable adults to undergo a CRB check
Note: This is not mandatory but is part of Branch rules and bye-laws. (See section Rules in Branch rules and bye-laws)
Duty of Care
Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club under the guidelines of the British Sub-Aqua Club assure that all reasonable precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and well being of any person involved in diving
Equality and Diversity
Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club have an open policy of encouraging equal opportunity for all, and which include provisions for disabled persons.
Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club rules
Any person under the age of 18 will be limited to Sports Diver qualification
During practical instruction and or dive an observer must be present.
During lectures a parent or guardian must be present
During any dive trip Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club instructors/members take responsibility whilst either diving and or on the club rigid hull inflatable boats, at all other times a parent or guardian hold responsibility and are expected to be present.
Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club reserves the right to limit the number to four under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults as full club members who are under going ocean diver training.
Try divers must be 12 years old or older
Sutton Coldfield Sub Aqua Club can only accept members who are 15 years of age or older.
